Members who wish to operate the winch must view the video and follow the safety guidance below to ensure the safety of themselves and others whilst operating the equipment:

1. People that have not watched the video and read the safety briefing must not operate the winch;

2. The committee respectfully requests members support this safety briefing and ask for help if anyone cannot meet the safety standards required to operate this potentially dangerous piece of equipment;

3. Non-members, children and young people must not operate the winch;

4. Whilst two-person operation is preferred, it is possible to safely operate the switch and guide the cable correctly back on to the drum, as demonstrated in the video;

5. Do not pull the power cable from the shed - lay it out on the ground to ensure the plug is not pulled out of the socket;

6. Keep hands well clear of the drum and use gloves where possible;

7. Feed the cable in straight and not at an angle i.e. do not stand to the left or right of the cabinet;

8. Watch the cable feed in at all times and reverse the feed to correct any kinks in the cable or uneven distribution of the cable on the drum;

9. Do not wind the cable up fully onto the drum - leave a few coils with the hook below the winch;

10. Store the yellow switch in the holder and coil the power cable up off the ground to keep the equipment dry;

11. Finally, consider if the power to the winch needs to be switched off in the shed if no one is on the shore / there will be insufficient supervision of the winch to prevent members of the public passing through our grounds from touching the equipment.
